WEATHER FACTORS AND TOOLS

There are four different factors when we talk about weather, and each one has a tool to measure it:
  • Temperature: thermometer
  • Humidity: hygrometer
  • Wind: anemometer
  • Precipitation: rain gauge

BODIES OF WATER

SALT WATER

Oceans

Large bodies of salt water.
They are: Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Artic and Southern Ocean.

Seas

Large bodies of salt water smaller than oceans.
Some of them are: Mediterraneas, Caribbean, South China and Bering Sea.

FRESH WATER

Rivers

Water that flows over the ground (example: Nilo, Tajo, Ebro)

Lakes

Large enclosed bodies of fresh water (Example: Victoria Lake)

WATER CYCLE

PRECIPITATION

Water droplets combine and grow. When they are

too heavy they fall to the ground.

CONDENSATION

Water vapour rises and cools. As it cools it turns

into water droplets, which form clouds. The darker

the clouds, the more water they have.

EVAPORATION

Heat from the Sun warms the water surface and it

evaporates.

Plants lose water: transpiration.

COLLECTION

Precipitation collects in bodies of water (rivers and

lakes). It is also absorved by ground: Groundwater.
